OnePlus is nearing the eventual launch of the OnePlus 3 but the China-based company may be sweetening the pot a bit by offering something special in the form of a OnePlus Loop VR headsets on a first-come, first served basis.
OnePlus is reportedly working with AntVR at the moment where 30,000 OnePlus Loop VR headsets will be specially made. If so, this will be an added perk for the folks planning to get the next OnePlus flagship which calls to mind a similar strategy pulled by the company last year.
To recount, OnePlus gave away 30,000 Google Cardboard-style VR viewers to add a bit of spunk and invite folks to witness the launch of the OnePlus 2 in virtual reality. This time however, it may cost more than the $5 cardboard viewers though OnePlus believes that they may eventually become collector’s items due to limited availability.
Obviously OnePlus is looking to make it another big affair and virtual reality will be part of it. The inclusion of the Loop VR headset means that folks will get a chance to watch the OnePlus 3 launch in virtual reality once more by simply sliding they smartphone, regardless of what that may be in the moment.
It is however recommended that the smartphone used will have a display screen measuring about 5 to 6 inches which would be slid to the Loop VR headset.
“We believe we, and the tech industry as a whole, have only scratched the surface of what can be done in VR, and there’s much more immersive experiences to be had,” said OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. “Inspired by a certain fan video, we took to our imagination of where OnePlus would be decades from now, having moved our headquarters to space.”
There is no official launch date set on stone but from the looks of it, OnePlus wants to do it under another virtual reality setting which seems to be the trend these days. Remember how Samsung did the trick at the Mobile World Congress?
