Lebron James is looking good as he seems to be on his way of fulfilling a promise – that of which is to hand the Cleveland Cavaliers and NBA title. The Toronto Raptors may be holding them off for now but at the rate the Cavs are rolling in the NBA playoffs, many are already smelling NBA gold.
It may be premature to celebrate but some may want to fast-forward to the offseason and figure out if an NBA title this season could have any bearing on James’ plans. No one ever bothered to consider the fact that James could end up leaving the Cavs since traditionally players don’t have any reason to.
But per ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith, he has reason to believe that if the Cavs win the title, James will be on the move in the offseason. He points out that James’ options will be open but has weighed in heavily on a return to South Beach.
Smith is of course no stranger to controversy. He has made calls related to top stars, including that of Kevin Durant of the OKC Thunder, another prime NBA free agent in the offseason. James still holds close ties with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and his forecast could happen once mission is accomplished in Cleveland.
It should also be noted that he moved back to Cleveland to deliver an NBA title. He never said anything about how many. And once he fulfills that, the landscape totally changes. In short, James will not leave Ohio without delivering the promise – regardless of how many tries.
Money is not expected to be a motivating factor. James has shown he is willing to take a paycut just to play alongside his friends. That list includes Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul.
While the scenario does make sense, would James return to a struggling Miami ballclub who will need to fill in certain slots? One of his others friends there, Chris Bosh, could see his career cut short following back-to-back seasons health issues (blood clot).
If true, would James woo in other players like Anthony or Paul too? For now, expect James to deny these allegations or pay no attention to it. “The King” is focused on one task which is to deliver an NBA title with no inclination of leaving.
However, strange things have happened before – especially during NBA free agency.
