The Gunplay of Sleeping Dogs

Hard-boiled gunplay? Check.
Aggressive cover system? Check.
Explosive and destructible environments? Check.
Requisite slow motion? Check.
High speed shootouts? Check and mate.

All that's missing are some doves and a solitary man walking away from an explosion. Maybe David Caruso putting on some shades?

Sleeping Dogs follows undercover cop Wei Shen as he infiltrates the Triad, attempts to bring them down and deals with the occasional conflict of interest in order to maintain his cover. A sprinkle of Grand Theft Auto, a dollop of Georges St. Pierre, and the voice talents of some of Hollywood's heavy hitters, bake at 450 degrees, and you have one bad ass video game.

Offering players an island packed with action, every street corner, market stall, harbor dock or city skyscraper can become an opportunity for intense shoot-outs, adrenaline-fuelled street races and intense, brutal martial arts combat. Featuring an intuitive and imaginative combat system, Sleeping Dogs empowers players to perform an extensive set of martial arts moves, single-handedly taking on numerous opponents.

Players perform bone-crushing kicks and combos, vicious counters, and a cinematic set of environmental takedowns making use of countless real-world items from circular saws to phone booths, incinerators to refrigerator doors. Fight your way up the organization, taking part in brutal criminal activities without blowing your cover.

Sleeping Dogs is out for PS3, PC, and XBox 360 August 14th. It will also appear at Gamescom, which starts today.
