In a recent Blizzard report, the new "Overwatch" open beta has now reached 9.7 million players and still counting. Surprisingly, the company's new IP is now a great hit among players.
Just to compare, Forbes noted that the "Destiny" open bata only reached 4.6 million players when it invited players in 2014. "The Division" did not even come close to "Overwatch" as it only gathered around 6.4 million players in 2016.
Although "The Division" was able to get the record for most beta players for a new IP in early 2016, but now it already lost its battle to "Overwatch."
To calculate that ridiculous number of gameplay, the 9.7 million players that are set worldwide have played 4.9 billion minutes of gameplay or a ridiculous 81 million hours that also included 37 million matches, according to PC Gamer.
"We're thrilled that such an incredible number of players from around the globe got a chance to check out Overwatch during the Open Beta," Mike Morhaime said, Blizzard CEO. "Our mission was to make sure as many console and PC gamers as possible could experience the full game ahead if its launch-the response was overwhelming, and we hope that everyone had a blast."

With "Overwatch" beta's success, Blizzard is seeing that once the game console's official full release on May 24, fans will be more excited to join in and be permanently get hooked on the game. As of now, Blizzard is keeping the excitement going by introducing its third "Overwatch" animated short, "Dragons."
