The rumor mill keeps spinning, this time courtesy of a gust brought to you by Apple competitor Verizon. While discussing Verizon's second quarter financials yesterday morning, Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo was asked about customers holding off upgrades during the same period.
His response?
"Of course there's always that, uh, rumor mill out there with a new phone coming out there in the fourth quarter, so people may be waiting," the CFO said.
Hmmm...which new phone might the CFO be referring to? It's a mystery. HINT - Keep in mind, that it was during this same period last year that Apple released its last smartphone, the iPhone 4S, in the US and six other countries.
Further fanning the flames is Apple's new operating system, iOS 6, is set to arrive at around the same time. And what better way to show it off than with a brand new gadget?
Following tradition, Apple has yet to comment on either the release date for the next-gen phone, or Shammo's "speculations" on the rumor mill.
The iPhone is rumored to feature: an improved camera, swappable camera lens, new processor, a smaller dock connector, NFC support, and as the Wall Street Journal recently reported, a larger screen.
