'Titanfall 2' PS4, Xbox One & PC Release Date & Trailer: What Players Need to Know So Far

"Titanfall 2," the much-awaited sequel to developer Respawn's multiplayer, first-person shooter game is scheduled for release anytime between October and December 2016. The announcement comes straight from publisher Electronic Arts, which had it included in its latest quarterly earnings report.

Electronic Arts previously informed that "Titanfall 2" would arrive between October 2016 and March 2017, GameSpot recalls, beside new "Battlefield" and "Mass Effect" titles. Now, prospects can also expect "Battlefield 1" on October 21, while "Mass: Effect Andromeda" is slated for an early 2017 landing.

The latest report reflects the release schedule of only those games which have been publicly announced, so there could be few surprises this coming E3, Engadget notes. For those who may not know, the event takes place in Los Angeles on June 14 to 16.

Some may find it strange that Electronic Arts is releasing "Titanfall 2" and "Battlefield 1" in the same window, but CEO Andrew Wilson explains that it's about different markets. "[Shooters are] a giant category in our industry, $4.5 billion, there's a very broad and diverse set of players who are looking to fulfil different gameplay motivations," he said (via Seeking Alpha).

He is convinced that Electronic Arts has what it takes to deliver diversity, "Some people play very quick play, some people play more strategic, some people want both in different context. We feel we have a really strong position to deliver the broader set of gameplay mechanics as it relates to the first-person shooter genre across two titles. I feel very confident that we are well positioned to do very well in that category in the year."

That being said, prospective players of either games are expected to find a unique identity for each. "Titanfall 2" details, in particular, are scarce, but an improved single-player campaign is likely. According to GamesRadar, among the biggest criticisms of the original "Titanfall" is its story mode, and this time, more traditional FPS storytelling could be the focus of single-player campaign.

"Titanfall 2" is scheduled for a world premiere on June 12, as announced in its official site. Gotta Be Mobile predicts that this would at least mean a new trailer, including more information on what distinguishes the new installment from its predecessor.

The game is set to arrive for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Check out its teaser trailer below, and find yourself excitement seeing Titans use swords.
