Fans are definitely making noise about Radiohead's strange disapperance from the internet recently. With this new "gimmick," fans of the UK band are almost certain that it has something to do with the band's new album launch. Skeptics on the other hand, are thinking that this could be their way of telling the public that they are finally disbanding.
As CNN reported, the band has been known to having unusual stunts before launching their new albums. In 2011, vocalist Thom Yorke dressed as a newsboy and handed out Radiohead newspapers in line with their "Kings of Limbs" album launch. On the other hand, their 2007 release, "In Rainbows," was launched as a "pay what you want" download.
As of writing, the band's official website, Radiohead.com, is a blank page. The Guardian also noted that their official Twiiter and Facebook accounts are wiped clean. Yorke's own Twitter account is currently empty, while no one can really confirm if other members, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood and Philip Selway will follow suit.
Another telling sign that Radiohead is about to release a new album is the leaflets being circulated through mail. The leaflet reportedly reads, "Sing a song of sixpence that goes / Burn the Witch / We know where you live."
Should this be a PR stunt for Radiohead's new album, a Gizmodo report is claiming that a June release date could be highly possible, if not even earlier. Their newest album will be their ninth studio album.
"The purging of the band's digital assets may have something to do with the band's contempt for online streaming," the report continued. "Though at this point, really it's anyone's guess as to what it all means."
