"Half Life 3" rumors continue to spread like wildfire online. With limited information about the highly anticipated third installment, fans are left to wonder whether Valve will ever decide to make a much needed conclusion to the previous title.
Several sites believe that "Half Life 3" will never see the light of day because of Valve's current priorities. Others are arguing that should it be launched in the future, it could possibly not live up to the hype fans have generated online after years of waiting.
According to Neurogadget, if Valve decides to make HL3, it would most likely "play like a much older game." Being the subject of memes and online jokes, having the actual game available to the gaming public could actually end "an era" of waiting. As the report suggested, it will no longer hold a legendary status, "but will be judged for its gameplay and content."
Valve CEO Gabe Newell has broken his silence to say that a "Half Life 3" release will not be happening. However, persistent fans tried to twist his response and hope has sparked anew.
"The only reason we'd go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why," Newell said as reported by The News Independent.
"But you know if you want to do another Half-Life game and you want to ignore everything we've learned in shipping Portal 2 and in shipping all the updates on the multiplayer side, that seems like a bad choice. So we'll keep moving forward. But that doesn't necessarily always mean what people are worried that it might mean."
Previous reports have also claimed that the "Half Life 3" development could be shelved and cancelled altogether to give more importance to other notable titles such as "Left4Dead 3." Valve is reportedly developing the horror survival game to coincide with their new Source 2 engine.
