‘Final Fantasy XV’ News & Rumors: Iconic Monsters and Realistic Wildlife Inspiration of Game?

While the monsters in "Final Fantasy XV" may seem fantastical, they are actually anatomically correct because they are based on realistic animals. According to news reports, all the designers involved in the project spent a lot of time studying videos.

Art Director Tomohiro Hasegawa said as much in a recent news interview where he said that director Hajime Tabata had specific instructions for them to watch a lot of National Geographic to find inspiration for all the monsters in "Final Fantasy XV."

Game Informer cited as an example of this blend between fantasy and realism with the monster called, Catoblepas, which is similar to a brontosaurus in most respects. While the earlier version of the game features a pixilated blue-and-green monster, the latest iteration featured a gray and splashes of white, which would be consistent with a pachyderm mammal.

The long neck of the Catoblepas is vital to the survival, and the way nature would have intended it. In this way, the monster can use its length to eat trees from high up or go deep when scourging for food underwater.

In other news, Telegraph reported that Square Enix is giving all out on the launch of the "Final Fantasy XV." Aside from the game itself, the developer is also planning to release a movie (which will be fully CGI titled "Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy"), an anime (a mini-series that will be available for free) and a mobile phone app to promote "FFXV" which will have a release date of Sept. 30, 2016.

However, there's a large gamble involved since Square Enix is betting that it can sell 10 million units of the game. If it doesn't pan out, it's going to be a costly investment indeed.

Unlike the previous practice of first launching the title in Japan before other country, news reports said that the "Final Fantasy XV" will have a simultaneous global release. But Tabata said that there's a method to the madness because it allows them to expand the universe exponentially.
