So it seems that Borderlands 2 will be a pretty hefty game. In an interview with NowGamer, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said that some time clocks in at about 60 hours. And that's if you're quick about it.
As Pitchford revealed, when the good people at Brady Games came by to play the game so they could develop a strategy guide, it took them a shade over 58 hours just to complete the game. That's without even experiencing everything the game has to offer.
Pitchford explains: "Their approach was that they were going to start by taking a character and just playing through the game really fast, and then they would play the other characters, do second playthroughs, find hidden stuff and do all of the challenges...That very first, quick playthrough took them 58 hours, so they had to extend the time here to more than double, and come back a second time just to see everything...Part of why that happened is, when we were playing the first Borderlands, for most of us it became a hobby, just as it did for a lot of our fans. So we really took the idea that Borderlands 2 needed to be a hobby as well."
The end result was a massive game that's said to be twice the size of the first. And if you're concerned that level caps will keep you from enjoying the game, throw that idea out the window. Borderlands 2 has NO level cap. Gearbox also recently announced that returning Borderlanders will get a nice bonus. The "Vault Veteran Rewards" package will be avaliable for those who have a saved game file from the first Borderlands.
In a recently released trailer, Pitchford took us through the Borderlands 2's opening level, Sanctuary, where he showed us some familiar faces, new enemies, and a lovely Pandoran rendition of "Pop Goes the Weasel."
It's a long, hot summer, but Borderlands 2 will provide some cool Fall relief when it launches September 18.
