The majority of the gaming community thinks that Microsoft's Xbox One is a separate entity from the Windows devices, but the software and electronics manufacturer giant thinks the other way. According to their Executive Vice President, Chris Capossela, they treat the Xbox One as a Windows device, similar to their mobile phones and operating systems.
The statement was made by Chris Capossela at the Citi Global Technology Conference and said that since the Xboxes today runs on Windows, it will not be classified as a similar entity, but a Windows product as well.
Although the Xbox One runs on a different version of Windows, the company revealed that they will be releasing an update for the gaming console, so it can run on Window's latest operating system, the Windows 10. Sources said that the Xbox One Windows 10 update is in preparation for Apple TV, who aims to battle Sony and Microsoft's PlayStation and Xbox gaming consoles, respectively.
The actual release date is yet to be announced, but it likely to be scheduled days after Apple much anticipated 2015 event, which will showcase their new and upcoming device.
On the other hand, Microsoft did not offer further information, like how the console will actually work once the update is done or how its dashboard will look like. They did point out, however, that the updated Xbox will not run Excel or Word or PowerPoint in the device, but the update will be heavily geared towards the device's gaming capability.
At this point, Microsoft's vision for Windows 10 is to at least reach 1 billion computers and devices by 2018. The latest Microsoft operating system was launched at the end of July as a follow-up to Window 8. By the end of August, Windows 10 has reached a staggering 75 million installations.
