Destiny Server Shuts Down In Preparation For The Taken King Expansion, Expected To Be Up By 10PM BST

Sony's ultra popular game, Destiny has recently received a major inconvenience as its servers went down and will not be up until 10 PM BST. The outage was also reported to be worldwide, thus making the game unplayable, everywhere, due to a scheduled maintenance across all platforms.

According to reports, the scheduled maintenance is in preparation of Destiny's upcoming expansion The Taken King.

The server went flat at around 4 PM BST (approximately 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET) and will return to action around 10 PM BST (2 PM PT / 5 PM ET) if the maintenance will go smoothly. The game's producer stated that a system maintenance notice will be sent out to all players stating that some of the Bungie.net sign-in and companion app services may be restricted due to the maintenance.

The expansion, The Taken King, will be launched, formally, on September 15, a little bit over a year since Destiny was launched. Destiny became an instant hit when it was released in 2014 and was named as the most successful video game IP ever. The game booked a total of $500 million worth of units sold in just one day.

Aside from the massive success in sales, Destiny also tabbed the most followers at around 16 million by the first month of this year. Destiny has so far released two minor expansions since its 2014 release, The Dark Below in December 2014 and House of Wolves in May this year.

The Taken King expansion would be Destiny's major instalment to the series and the producers and publishers of the game is expecting the same success once it is formally released. The game will include new areas to explore, including a massive spaceship named Dreadnaught, and new enemies to conquer.

Destiny's The Taken King will also feature seven new multiplayer Crucible maps and two multiplayer game modes. On top of new and improved items, weapons, gears, and upgrades to the class system.

Game of Throne's Peter Dinklage was also removed from the game, and all his lines and dialogues were re-recorded by Nolan North.
