The modern universal remote is here. The SmartGlass is a mobile phone and tablet app unveiled by Microsoft at E3 2012 conference in Los Angeles, recently. It is the future of digital entertainment. It makes possible to browse or open video, music, and game on Xbox 360. It has the information of what you are doing; and sends forth that information to your tablet or phone. If you are watching a television show it gives the information on the cast, the number of episodes, without you having to physically asking for it. It also provides updates information on your mobile as the TV program changes. It can turn your mobile as a second screen and gives information on the program you watch. It will help organise your music playlist, making suggestion and helping you socially share music.
The app transforms as a trackpad for Xbox, enabling peripheral controls for games and you can use the web browser of Xbox via a tablet or phone. It simplifies switching and changing screens. "Xbox SmartGlass was developed within the Interactive Entertainment Business, where we believe that your devices should work together to enhance your entertainment experience" says Lisa Worthington, senior PR manager for Interactive Entertainment at Microsoft.
SmatGlass can be accessed not only by Windows based devices but also on Android and iOS operating systems making it easy for the user. It lets people stay connected on the Xbox while on the move. Microsoft has informed that SmartGlass will be available for games like Halo 4 AND Madden NFL, where it may be possible to plan, draw, and execute football strategies from a tablet. But only Ascend has been announced for SmartGlass, thus far.
Though Microsoft seems to be stealing the show from Nintendo's Wii but Microsoft has other bigger battle. There is a huge competition for a bigger share in the living room entertainment. TV manufacturers, the cable TV channels, set-top box suppliers, Google, and Apple are all in the fray.
SmartGlass assures that we will have an enhanced living room entertainment, play games, watch movies or our favorite programs or just listen to music.
