'Guitar Hero Live' Behind The Scenes Video Shows Off New Guitar Controller, Live Crowds

FreeStyleGames and Activision have released this new video that shows off the creation of their new Guitar Hero title Guitar Hero Live, and why they were trying to incorporate stage fright.

As previously announced, the big gimmick with this game is that it's played in first-person, where you're in a band on stage in front of a massive crowd of real live people. These isn't cartoony computer graphics, this is full-motion video, all the better to increase the realism and actually make you nervous to play, or so they hope.

The crowds were a huge part of the game, and here you'll see that they really shot the live experience. While they used green screens to make the crowd appear larger, some giant festival with tens if not hundreds of thousands of fans, the people up front are all real and react to your guitar playing accordingly. It was obviously a ton of work to make you feel like you're in front of a crowd, but does it work?

Personally? I could do without the crowds holding up signs that say "You suck!" or "You rock!" This was a great chance to feel immersion in a game and I feel it's completely squandered with crowd reactions that are so obviously videogamey that they can't help but pull you out of the experience.

Still, the controller itself is a lot of fun (as you can read from our hands-on preview of Guitar Hero Live here) and we're really curious to see what the final set list is.
