One of last year's best games, the retro platformer Shovel Knight, is out today for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita. Not to be outdone, and wanting to be one of the cool kids (the game originally came out for 3DS), Xbox One is getting the title next week.

Xbox's Major Nelson confirmed the release via Twitter yesterday.
Much like how the PlayStation versions are receiving an exclusive new boss battle with Kratos from God of War, the Xbox One is also getting a much older and far more worthy adversary.

"But we're collaborating with more than just Microsoft! We've had the Rare privilege of working with one of the most celebrated studios in gaming. Take a look at the incredible collaboration with Microsoft to ensure the Xbox One version packs a lot of extra punch: Battletoads!
Yacht Club Games made the announcement a few weeks back, "The Battletoads, who debuted on the NES in 1991, are going to be returning in the Xbox One version of Shovel Knight! It has been so much fun to bring the radical attitude and gameplay of the NES classic to the Shovel Knight world. If you have ever played Battletoads- we're pretty sure their extreme adventures left an impression! Check out how we've reimagined the NES sprites in Shovel Knight's iconic style."
Our very own Alex Riviello loves the game on the 3DS and had some prescient words in his review, "This is the kind of throwback we love to see, one that completely understands the genre it's trying to emulate, inside and out, taking it and reshaping it and adding a little taste of its own. Shovel Knight is a wonderfully fun game and we can only hope that this isn't the last time he hoists his shovel against evil."
But, admittedly, he also says he beat Battletoads, so there's only so much salt we can apply to his words. Regardless, Shovel Knight and the toads are on Xbox One next week.
