Surprise! Square Enix has just released a brand new free-to-play RPG on mobile devices, Masters of the Masks, which sees you playing a group of masked warriors on a quest to rid their realm of an evil, mostly with the aid of their masks.
The game boasts a neat cel-shaded style and a soundtrack from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers composer Hidenori Iwasaki.
Masters of the Masks is a turn-based RPG that offers a control system designed specifically for mobile devices, where once a character is ready to attack you will simply drag a line from them to the enemy you want to target.
Win battles and you'll spin a wheel that lets you earn materials that are necessary for weapon upgrades, allowing you to improve your weapons, shields, and, of course, masks. The game is all about those divine masks, which offer unique skills and abilities and can be fused together to further improve your skills. Being that this is F2P title you better believe you can throw real money at it if you so desire, and there are timers (here by each level costing a certain amount of stamina that slowly replenishes) to ensure you only get in quick bursts of gameplay.
Also as per usual for mobile games Square Enix is promising regular updates to expand and improve the experience.
They have also released this very quick and effective teaser trailer that shows off a little of the gameplay, and the really stylized graphics. Check it out below.
Masters of the Masks is now available for free via the App Store and Google Play.
