Say what you will about GameStop, but you've got to give them points for making this available to small children.
Yep, that's a hidden blade, the trademark history changer and life ender of the Assassin Order, done specifically in the style of Ezio di Auditore's. Available later this fall, the device will retail for $40, and features:
- Spring Loaded Action
- Adjustable Buckle and Velcro Straps
- Locking Safety Mechanism
- Extends to over 15" in length
- Made of PVC and ABS plastics
- Closed Box Packaging
The Hidden Blade was used for both stealth assassinations and regular combat. Truly iconic, it was their most versatile weapon, with multiple upgrades and forms of use. It consisted of a retractable blade, usually in conjunction with a protective bracer. As such, the blade could be discreetly extended or retracted, making it a valuable tool for assassinations.
As technology changed with the times, so too did the blade. In Assassin's Creed 2, Ezio managed to receive a variety of upgrades to his blade from the literal Renaissance man himself, Leonardo da Vinci.
Connor, the protagonist from the upcoming Assassin's Creed 3, will similarly be equipped with a hidden blade. His will include another enhancement provided by technology of the 18th century. Connor's blade is allowed to be used as a pivot-based dagger. The semi-detachable blade could then be used as a more typical hand-held weapon, and presumably as a skinning knife for hunting before being returned to a more traditional orientation for use in assassinations.
To GameStop's credit, they did realize the dangerous possibilities of making a tool designed for a stealthy assassination available to the public, so they made it plastic. Still, please remember, "May not be suitable for younger audiences. Parental supervision is recommended." I don't want any of you dingbats doing something stupid with this thing and ruin my chances at getting one.
