LG 2015 4k TV Models Announced: Prices And Sizes Revealed For This Year's 4K UHD OLED & LED Models

At an event in NYC today, LG showed off their 2015 lineup of Ultra HD 4K TVs, with the little help of a blind inhabitant of Hell's Kitchen.

“Picture quality is the top consideration for television shoppers, and LG’s 2015 4K TV lineup delivers,” said David VanderWaal, vice president of marketing, LG Electronics USA. “OLED is unequivocally the best screen technology in the market today, and LG is the only manufacturer to offer OLED TVs, both 4K ULTRA HD and Full HD this year. Our PRIME UHD LED TV models with ColorPrime technology offer the best in 4K LED with expanded color capability for more lifelike images and, like all of our Ultra HD LED TVs, they deliver incredible clarity and detail with four times the resolution of Full HD.

While there was plenty of that kind of talk at the event, they clearly are excited about OLED, and their Curved 4K model is their flagship. The 65EG9600 Art Slim Curved 4K OLED will be available at retail later this month and run you $8,999. While there's been much debate over the merits of 4K TVs at all, most are in agreement that OLED is the next step up for screen tech, although it still comes at a price. The screens truly are stunning, however.

Next are their PRIME UHD TVs, a premium line of 4K TVs that use LG's "ColorPrime" technology, Ultra Luminance, 4K In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel, the LG Prime Mastering Engine, and no doubt many, many other buzzwords. These are said to "magnify the range of colors that can be displayed on screen by utilizing different LED phosphor colors, creating greater image depth and realism." The 65- and 55-inch models are now available for $4,499 and $3,699 respectively.

Besides the PRIME models there are also new regular ol' UHD LED TVs, hitting this Spring. These are the UF8500 (3D UHD LED), UF7700 (UHD LED) and UF7600 (UHD LED) series, which each come in six sizes, from 43-inch models to 70-inch, with prices ranging from $1,399 to $3,999.

All of these models will include LG's webOS 2.0, an updated version of their Smart TV platform that will let you quickly switch between a number of apps (Netflix, Amazon, and the like). Folks who bought into the 2014 LG models will be pleased to hear that while they aren't getting a new version of webOS, they will be getting a free update sometime around July.
