During today's Nintendo Direct it was revealed that Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains, a 4-player co-op game based on the popular anime, is coming to North America and Europe this May 2015.
It has already been released in Japan but this is the first official word on it coming to these shores. At this point, we're used to Japan getting all the cool exclusive Attack on Titan stuff (You have seen that terrifying Universal Studios exhibit, right?) so it's a plesant surprise to see it on the wayt.
This game looks pretty faithful to the series, and will let you play as one of the elite Scout Regiment as they try to take down some titans, using the omni-directional mobility gear and those nifty replaceable blades of theirs. As in the manga and anime, you need some help to do so, and thus the game offers 4-player co-op, both locally and online!
Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains will also support the C-stick of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, or the Circle Pad Pro, for those of you with that ridiculous attachment.
If you are unfamilar with Attack on Titan series you can jump in via the first two episodes of the show, which are available on the Nintendo eShop for free right this instant. Just be warned- it's a brutal experience, at least in the beginning before it starts to fall off.
Here are the features of the game-
Story Mode: As a member of the elite Scout Regiment, defending the outer walls from the Titans will push players to their very limits to save humanity. Enhanced Titan AI behavior will sap every ounce of ability from players as they make a last stand for the human race.
Familiar Characters, New Customizations: Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackermann and others will be familiar faces for players as they pick their favorite Scout member to defend the Walls. Several new additions will join the Scout Regiment, customizable with costumes, weapons and voices.
Online Co-op Mode: Defend the outer walls with up to three friends in the all-new online co-op mode with ranking and leaderboards.
Fresh Look: Updates to the UI, improvements in gameplay balance and support for the Circle Pad Pro and the New Nintendo 3DS XL system's C-Stick take Humanity in Chains to the next level.
Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains will be featured in its original Japanese language with English subtitles, the way The Wall intended. It will release sometime this May, exclusively on the Nintendo eShop. That means digital copies only, so make some room, and good luck out there- you do know the mortality rate for the Scouts, right?
