Dawnguard Now Available, First 20 Minutes of Gameplay, and the Future for Skyrim

For those living under a rock, the eagerly awaitied DLC for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Dawnguard is now available, exclusively for Xbox owners (you bastards).

Clocking in with about 10 to 20 hours worth of gameplay, you'll have the option of joining the titular vampire hunting Dawnguard and taking on the vampire lord Harkon in his quest to extinguish the sun, or you can join Harkon and his kin, who grant you all the powers to be one with the night.

Said Skyrim's lead artist Matt Carofano, "Dawnguard will be significantly bigger than any Fallout DLC," Carofano added. "We wanted to do something more in depth than that. It's not as big as Shivering Isles, but there's still a lot of content there."

Among that content are new skill trees, enemies, weapons, and armor. The DLC went live at around 11 AM this morning, so Xbox gamers should go grab it as soon as they can. As for me, I saw fit to buy a PS3, so I'll just be waiting very impatiently. If you're in the same boat, you can check out the first 20 minutes of gameplay below, courtesy of vg247.com.

What comes next for Skyrim? Well, Bethesda isn't sure yet. Carafano has said, “Once it’s out we’ll see how it goes and see what could happen in the future...We want to expand and add to the game to make it better, and Vampires were something that we really hadn’t told a good story with — hadn’t really developed much — so we wanted to focus the DLC on that and let people play the game differently.”

For now, let's just enjoy the bloodsucking benefits of our new vampiric powers, or make like Juliet Lewis in "From Dusk 'til Dawn" and crossbow some suckers.
