Zynga, makers of addictive micro-transaction titles such as Farmville, is hoping to cash in on some of that sweet, sweet Clash of Clans money with its upcoming mobile action strategy game, Dawn of Titans.
Another Mobile Warhammer Game? Sure, Okay! Warhammer: Snotling Fling, Out Now
The game is developed by NaturalMotion, a UK-based company that Zynga picked up for just over a half a billion dollars a few years back. The story of the game, as stated in the official blog post, began with a simple question: "is it possible to create believable, epic battles with several thousand units, all fighting in real-time, that you control at your fingertips?"
Torstein Reil, NaturalMotion's CEO - and one of the best names in gaming - seems to think so. In Dawn of Titans, players command legions - not simply one tiny village or clan - of armed forces, from bowmen, pikemen, infantry, militia and engage in epic online battles that can be done and over "in the time it takes a barista to make a macchiato."
Magic Duels: Origins, F2P Title Announced For Summer
You really had me at "mobile action strategy game" but one that also allows for quick, on the go, dare I say "casual" gaming? Gentlemen, you have my full and utmost attention.
"Powering Dawn of Titans is NaturalMotion's mobile technology and toolset that creates unprecedented visuals, animation and depth-of-gameplay. Echo, Dawn of Titans proprietary engine, enables the game to feature thousands of units on-screen to achieve epic battles and run smoothly on mobile devices. In addition to Echo, Titans and troops are brought to life with our Morpheme animation engine, giving in-game Titans and characters dynamic and unique, lifelike movements."
Where can I sign up? Microtransactions be damned.
Clash of Clans may always be the top game on the app store, but like any champion, I am sure it will welcome the competition. Dawn of Titans will be entering geo-lock testing within the next few months with a potential release date of later this year.
