Earlier today, the UK version of Amazon has listed Nintendo's upcoming console the Wii U at £199. However, those who did pre order the system later found a letter from Amazon saying their order(s) had been cancelled.
Posted on Amazon UK's comment section by J. Ruiz, the letter reads:
"Hello,
We're writing to you regarding to your order 026-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx for the Nintendo Wii U (Black) console. Your order has been cancelled as this product was listed on https://Amazon.co.uk in error. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

We hope to see you again soon.
Warmest regards,
Customer Service Department"
Amazon has also dated the system's release for July 14th, which seems a bit early, and also likely in error.
"Amazon.co.uk's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and dispatched. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, software, or video game, the price you pay will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.co.uk between the time you placed your order and up to and including the release date.
The £199 price tag would put the Wii U at a few dimes over $309 in terms of USD.
As Nintendo has yet to make an announcement regarding either release date or cost, many retailers are doing their best to guestimate. Online reatailer ShopTo recently listed its pricing for the console as £279.99, approximately $435. Games for the console like ZombiU and Assassin's Creed 3 are listed as slightly higher than average, retailing for £39.99 ($62), about $3 more than the average new game.
During E3 last week, Nintendo's global president Satoru Iwata pegged the figure at more than 20,000 yen, the equivalant of $250, saying only "This is not going to be cheap." Granted, "cheap" is a relative term. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime also uses the $250 amount as a benchmark of sorts. Comparing the Wii U launch price to other consoles at launch, Reggie thinks that people will be pleasantly surprised. "Nintendo believes in being a mass market product, so unlike our competitors when they've launched historical systems to maybe start at a really high price and work their way down, we don't believe in that...We want to launch at a price that's going to represent an ongoing great value...You look at the Wii. Wii stayed at $250 for a really long time, and so we're going to give that same level of thought to the Wii U."
Nintendo has pegged their new console will be on sale in time for Christmas.
