The best things in life come in twos. Rob Roy and Braveheart. WWE and the WCW. Guitar Hero and Rock Band. While those last two have not been heard from for quite some time, the recent rumor of a potential new Rock Band game has gotten Activision interested in reviving their own Guitar Hero franchise.
PAX East 2015: Square Enix Announces Its Fantastical Lineup
Kotaku UK reports that Activision, which helped kickstart the musical instrument revolution (and subsequently kill it off, too), "has a new Guitar Hero game in development, reportedly for this year."
The new game, which will have its official title announced "at E3" will take on a decidedly more realistic approach. Whereas you once rocked out alongside some brightly colored cartoon avatars, you will now be headbanging alongside some very realistic band members. All of this for the Xbox One and PS4, if rumor is to be believed.
GTA V For PC Delayed Again, When Is It Coming Out Now?
The musical instrument genre was one of the most successful during the mid-2000s, but an oversaturation of games from both Guitar Hero and Rock Band, plus the crash of 2008 wiping out the economy, the music died seemingly overnight. The last Guitar Hero game, Warriors of Rock, was released in 2010 and, honestly, do any of you even remember that one?
While we are all for more music games, we hope that both Harmonix and Activision will ease off just a little this time around. No need to blow all the money on the first single, there's a whole career to look forward to.
