The coming season of The Walking Dead is slated to be different from the previous seasons. We're only one episode in and we've already seen evidence that this will be the case. There's no safety for anyone. The new season will be far from what we're used to when it comes to the series. A new threat surfaces that we haven't seen before.
An Unexpected Death In The Walking Dead Shatters The Group In Mid-Season Premiere
"But [the second half of the season] really is about what the recent circumstances and the stress of having survived so much does to the group, both individually and collectively. They'll be facing very different kind of threats that we haven't seen before," executive producer Gale Anne Hurd said in a recent interview with TV Guide.
We've been trying to guess at what is coming for the group in the coming episodes. After a series of run-ins with both zombies and the last remnants of society, the mention of a new type of threat is intriguing.
Is There A New Location In The Card For The Walking Dead?
This may mean that we will not be seeing either the Whisperers or Negan for the back half of the season.
It's clear that the group has a lot of personal work to do with themselves in the coming season. They've experienced some great and sudden loses in the last few months of The Walking Dead time and this may be when we see that all come to light.
This could mean that the focus in the coming episodes will be more on the cast's internal struggles. Maggie's trip down the dark path, Rick's turn to brutality. This season may be less about "something new" and more about setting up a drastically different season six.
The Walking Dead airs Sunday on AMC.
