As the title indicates, this new crossover will have the Guardians meeting with the X-Men in an attempt to stop the Black Vortex from falling into the wrong hands. Although the name sounds like some sort of space port, it isn't.
The Black Vortex is actually a very powerful artifact. It can grant immeasurable power to the user. Think Jean Gray vs Jean Gray with Phoenix Entity. Basically it's a battery of awesome that grants the user the ability to level a civilization.

You can see why this shouldn't end up in the hands of evil. Evil doesn't care though, evil wants what it wants.
The two bands of heroes must team up to take on Mr. Knife, father of Star-Lord, and Thane son of Thantos. Man, family reunions must be a bit stressed in space. Of course, everyone will be too busy running all over the universe to really be worried about such personal connections.
The series starts off with an Alpha issue before continuing through individual titles which will include Guardians of the Galaxy, Legendary Star-Lord , All New X-Men, Captain Marvel, Nova, and Cyclops to name a few.
