2K Games and Firaxis only recently revealed the existence of Sid Meier's Starships, but now we're getting the first look at gameplay footage.

The video is from the Firaxis Megapanel at PAX South, which took place last weekend. It's the whole panel featuring Sid Meier himself and other members of the development team, not just the gameplay portion.
You can find the first look at gameplay footage begins at 32:55 of the video, if you don't want to watch the rest (though the intro cinematic is played a few minutes before that, at the 30 minute mark, before cutting back to the panel briefly). The developer comments are interesting, and give you a better idea of where the game is headed--if that is at all intriguing to you as opposed to skipping ahead to the gameplay, I recommend the watch.

You begin a new game by choosing your Affinity--the same three options available in Beyond Earth--and a leader that represents that ideology. From there, the gameplay takes on a very Galactic Civilizations appearance, which you can see for yourself as Sid Meier explains the game--enjoy!
