Gaming speedruns were making headlines more than usual a few weeks back during the Awesome Games Done Quick charity marathon, but the records haven't stopped coming since.

As noted by Kotaku earlier today, a new best time has been set for the original Legend of Zelda, with Twitch user Darkwing_Duck_sda clocking in at 30 minutes and 29 seconds. The run uses glitches, if that's the sort of thing that bothers you (there are some speedrun purists out there, though records for both types are held), but it's impressive nonetheless.
You can watch the run below, which takes you on a whirlwind tour of a game that usually takes closer to a dozen hours to complete. As you can see on this speedrun archive site, Darkwing_Duck_sda held the previous best time as well (it hasn't yet been updated), and there's some description of the techniques used to conquer the classic game so quickly.

The use and memorization of glitches often impresses me more than normal runs, if not just because I'm usually unware some of the exploits demonstrated are possible. I can appreciate going through the normal game quickly without glitches, too, but there's something wowing about seeing these series of exploits that you may not have known existed. I still think the blindfolded Ocarina of Time run from AGDQ is my favorite, though--talk about putting your practice in.
