During the E3 2012 press conference, Microsoft revealed a world premiere video of the newest addition to the Gears of War franchise, entitled: Gears of War Judgment.
Gears of War Judgment will give you a chance to visit a time period that has not been visited before. For those concerned how the heck there can be a next Gears of War, the brief E3 trailer reveals that it will be a prequel of the first installment. Instead of Marcus Fenix, as usual, the protagonist of this fourth installment will instead be Damon Baird, and players will be controlling him 14 years before the first Gears of War, during his time as a Lieutenant .
According to the Director of Development of Epic Games, Rod Fergusson, Gears of War Judgment is unique because it has a different style of gameplay and is not as scripted as its predecessors. It's a lot more open and so allows for a twist in the franchise.
In the Judgment gameplay video (below), Fergusson talks about the OverRun feature which is class based attack and defend game multiplayer mode. It is the first time a class based system has ever been used in the Gears of War game; you are able to play as an engineer, scout soldier or medic on the COG side.
The Gears of War franchise has truly grown in success with just three games so far, and has sold over 18.5 copies worldwide.
Gear of War Judgment is scheduled to be released in 2013.
