The struggles of Halo: The Master Chief Collection are well-known by now, with online and matchmaking issues plaguing the title since launch. A series of smaller updates have helped fix the game and make it more playable, but 343 is ready to take a much larger leap forward in improving the experience.

The next update is significantly larger than the previous patches, and will be beta tested through the Xbox Preview Program before public release. 343 announced its plans in an official blog post, explaining that the scale of this patch warrants additional public testing.
"In recent weeks, we have been conducting extensive internal testing of an upcoming content update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Given the scale of the update, which includes changes to the matchmaking experience and party system, we are expanding testing to include select members of the Xbox One Preview program to ensure the official release is the best possible experience for all players."

Franchise Director Frank O'Connor also took to NeoGAF to further explain the update, stating that it will "drastically overhaul some of the underlying issues, rather than trying to fix them bit by bit." The incremental patches have improved some areas of the game, but it's clear that there are fundamental problems with the game's framework that are continuing to cause problems. As frustrating as the experience has been, it's promising that 343 acknowledges the situation and is addressing the game's foundation issues, rather than continuing to simply apply bandages.
An FAQ can be read at the blog post, explaining some more details about the coming update. It will roll out to the Xbox Preview Program users tomorrow, January 23, and hopefully release publicly not long after the beta concludes.
