It's been reported that American Horror Story alumni Jessica Lange would not be returning after this season of the hit horror show. Despite this, it seems that something has changed a firm "no" into more of a "maybe."
New Season Of American Horror Story May Take Place In Modern Times
Before season three was over, Lange came out to say that season four would be her last season with the show. However, in an interview with E Online, she let it slip that there may be a chance for her to come back to production for season five.
"You know, I told him [Ryan Murphy] that we would sit down and have a long conversation when this was over. In a way this character is so great, I don't know how you top Elsa Mars. I really-in deference to Ryan, who I love dearly and who I respect beyond-I have no idea at this point," Lange said.

So basically, if we want to see more Lange, it will be up to Murphy to pitch a stellar story to her, which is something that all the fans want anyway. It has also recently been hinted that the next season of the popular show would see some serious changes.
Obviously all seasons are different, but season five will allegedly be startlingly so. Perhaps the major overhaul is a bid to keep Lange on set.
Lange has been in every season of the show since the beginning. In all but season one, she has had a main role in the anthology series. She is in many ways, the face of the ever changing series.
We'll all just have to wait and see if Murphy manages to woo her back to work.
The season finale for American Horror Story: Freak Show airs tomorrow night at 10 on FX.
