The latest trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron hit last night during the College Football Playoffs. It arrived with giddy anticipation and left with an awkward sense of 'huh'. Let's be honest, Marvel just has to say 'Avengers in theaters' and we will respond 'when? When? When?!?!'
World of Warcraft: Chronicle, New Comic WIll Outline The Forging Of Azeroth
While the trailer offered up new and exciting images, it is but a poor imitation of its predecessor. Both feature a redone version of 'I've Got No Strings' from Pinnochio, with the latest iteration being a strictly melancholy instrumental remix that hammers home the overwhelming sense of despair that will run throughout the film.
The first trailer, which probably broke the internet more than any Kardashian ever could, had this sense of newness, that charged atmosphere. As did the original film. Here...more slow motion, more melodrama and Tony sounding cryptic. I do not say this to sound entitled or whiny, but I guess 'I want more'. Stark hints that the world needs more than a cabal of superpowered individuals, tell me more of that.
WWE 2K15 Unleashes A Full Set Of New Moves In Latest DLC
You showed us the money shots last time, but this is a Joss Whedon film - it will be full of quips, puns and effortless dialogue - I want some of that. We all know that Age of Ultron will feature some of the best action all year, but I don't like these characters because they can hit good (okay, that's part of the reason), I like them because even though they're smart, powerful or in some cases, literally inhuman, they're still relatable.
Which is not to say that we here at GameNGuide do not appreciate the visual splendor on display in the latest trailer. We have a few great screengrabs for your desktop.
Ultimately, though, the second Age of Ultron trailer is a step down. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it just means that the first one was so, so, so very good that it set the bar perhaps far too high.
We're still there on May 1 when Avengers: Age of Ultron obliterates all previous box office records.
