They made a game? Inconceivable!
And Very Bad Eggs...Pirate Kings Comes To Mobile Devices
Sure enough, the fine folks over at Gameblend Studios have done just that. The Princess Bride - William Goldman's beloved novel and Rob Reiner's even more beloved 1987 movie - is now a video game for iOS devices.
The Princess Bride - The Official Game is a four-part adventure title you can take with you whenever you want. The game takes place during the film's rescue sequence, in which Westley tails Vizzini and company in his successful attempt to rescue Buttecup.
Hellblade Is Coming To PC, And Not Just As A Second Rate Port
For the record, I did not have to look any of that up.
The four game modes highlight the great feats of strength and dexterity Westley must undergo, and even Buttercup gets her moment to shine: Survive the shrieking eels, scale the Cliffs of Insanity, Duel with Inigo and finally, wrestle with Fezzik. Future updates to the game will add the famous battle of wits (remember, never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!) and the perils of the Fire Swamp.
I hope the Holocaust Cloak makes an appearance at some point, too.
While Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits is not reprising his role as composer - he did the magnificent work in the film - Mars Williams of English band The Psychedelic Furs takes over composing duties.
Now, everything I just said above makes it sound like another piece of licensed shovelware, a free to play mess. Not true! This is a fully premium title, costing $3.99 on the App Store at the moment with the expectation that all future content updates will be free and clear.
Watch the trailer below and download the game at the App Store.
