Game publisher Devolver Digital is known for taking on not-so-serious projects like Hatoful Boyfriend, but it is entirely serious about its desire to make a new Seaman game.

The original Sega Dreamcast title is a pet simulator in which, using voice commands, players take care of a fish that happens to sport a man's face. As noted by Destructoid, Devolver's Chief Financial Officer Fork Parker tweeted at SEGA requesting the rights to the franchise, hoping that that the studio will be able to develop a new entry.

Now, it's of course possible that Parker was entirely joking, but it doesn't exactly come off that way. It's not a serious topic in general, but he seems to genuinely be expressing a desire for the studio to get its hands on the ridiculous franchise. The original title launched on Dreamcast in 1991 and was followed by a PS2 re-release in Japan in 2001. The last game in the series, simply Seaman 2, was a bit more recent--it released in Japan for PS2 in 2007.

It's impossible to say if this tweet request is going along with any behind-the-scenes movement, or if anything will ever come of it. But Devolver probably would be a great home for such an offbeat title, and the interest is clearly there--who knows what will happen?
