The release of PlanetSide 2 on PS4 has been long-awaited by fans, and it appears to be moving ever closer with an approaching beta planned for release next month.

The process has taken a bit longer than expected, but, as reported by IGN, the beta launch is coming soon. Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley tweeted a response to a fan asking about the game's progress, and he revealed that it will go live on the week of either January 13 or 20.
The developer won't know which week is the launch date until they get back to work following the holiday period, as Smedley stated, but it's definitely set to launch this month. The title will be another free to play experience on the PS4, joining other games like DC Universe Online and Warframe.

PlanetSide 2 is a massively multiplayer online shooter that launched for PC in 2012. The game has a cash shop for buying cosmetic and convenience items, and the Player Studio allows for purchase of user-created content. Adding another platform will be a greatly appreciated revenue stream for both Sony Online Entertainment and the entrepreneurial players out there.
