People sure do love Game of Thrones, if the number of times it was pirated is any indication. After all, the violent world of Westeros took the top spot as the most downloaded show of the year. Congratulations?
Game of Thrones May See Some Drastic Changes from Source Material
Torrent Freak released their piracy report for the year and it was as could be expected, with the nation's most popular shows also topping the charts in piracy. However, Game of Thrones outdid them all as the HBO super show also took home an all-time record for most pirated show ever.
This is year number three that the show has been in the top spot for piracy. This year it was followed by The Walking Dead and The Big Bang Theory. Game of Thrones was interesting because unlike the other shows on the list, there were more downloads than viewers.
The MPAA Takes on The Pirate Bay to Crack Down On Sharing
This is probably because unlike many of the other top ten contenders, you have to purchase HBO. The other shows on the list come in basic cable packages for the most part. Although these numbers are already impressive, it's important to note that they don't count any unofficial sources so the actual number of pirated shows is probably much higher.
It doesn't seem that piracy is likely to be going anywhere anytime soon. With the numbers slowly creeping upward and more and more people gaining access to the digital world, it will no doubt become harder to crack down on such sharing.
Game of Thrones returns to TV in April whereas The Walking Dead comes back on February 8. Happy viewing, however you may watch them.
