It's both a wonderful and terrible time to be a gamer with an iPhone or iPad. Wonderful because there's dozens upon dozens of genuniely incredible games to play, terrible because there's simply no time or money to get them all. With the recent holiday sales taking place, at least the latter can be managed a little better. Time is up to you.
GameNGuide's Holiday Gift Guides!
But honestly, there's a staggering amount of games on sale right now, some of which have never seen a price drop before.
As with every Apple Store sale these prices are subject to change at a moment's notice, so if you're interested in one it's better to pick it up sooner rather than later. Here's our favorite picks of all the games currently on sale.
Goat Simulator - $0.99 (Down from $4.99)
A game that shouldn't be, but the entire world is better for it. Originally a goofy game jam created as a joke, it proved so popular that they turned it into a real game that's just as silly as its title sugest. The iOS version plays much like its PC big brother and includes tons of fun achievments and plenty of free planned updates in the works.
Infinity Blade III - $0.99 (Down from $6.99)
There's a good chance that if you own an iPhone you know this series. Epic Games' Infinity Blade games have proven that you can have console-quality graphics in the palm of your hand, and this is by the the most acclaimed in the series. At this price it's a mandatory purchase.
Deus Ex: The Fall - $0.99 (Down from $6.99)
This won multiple game of the year awards and offers a completely new storyline. It's a full Deus Ex title in your phone. 'Nuff said?
Threes! - $2.99 (Down from $3.99)
The most addictive puzzle game of the year, by far. Forget the cheap imitators and pick up the real deal.
Oceanhorn - $4.99 (Down from $8.99)
Sure it's not as cheap as the rest, but this is the first time the incredible action RPG's been on sale. You'll lose 10-12 hours in this game in an experience which is as deep as anything you can expect to play this year.
Bastion - $0.99 (Down from $4.99)
One of the finest games of recent years, period. A beautiful game in all respects, and works wonderfully with an MFI controller, if you're one of those lucky few. Worth it for the incredible narration alone, let alone the addictive combat, wonderful story, and unforgettable journey.
The Room Two - $0.99 (Down from $2.99)
A puzzle game that utilizes the touchscreen of your device in all sorts of wonderful ways, as you explore various rooms, interacting with puzzles and trying to solve a haunting, Lovecraftian mystery. Both titles are easily worth your money, and at a buck it's a no-brainer.
The Shadow Sun - $0.99 (Down from $7.99)
An RPG crafted by Bioware and Relic Entertainment vets, and if that's not sending you straight to the App Store, you're probably not the target audience. Also, you should probably play more games. But this is an action RPG held back only by the limitations of touch-screen controls.
Along with all of this, there's still that massive Final Fantasy/Square Enix Sale going on, as well as sales for nearly all of Playdek's games, which are all incredible adaptations of card and board games. Ascension in particular needs to live on your phone.
Good luck finding time for all of these, folks! I will be trying my best as well.
