Evolve News: Third Monster, Single Player Mode And Xbox One Open Beta Dates All Revealed

Evolve's Third Monster Is A Stealthy Glass Cannon With A Grim Reaper Design

Apparently the developers at Turtle Rock Studios had a news announcement backlog that they felt like clearing out before the end of the year because they've released three new pieces of Evolve information about its single-player mode, upcoming beta and third Monster character.

Space Hulk: Ascension Launches First Expansion On Steam

With the announcement of Wraith, Evolve's third and final Monster that will ship with the game, that game's base roster is finally full. Wraith plays very differently from Evolve's other Monsters, preferring a quick and stealthy approach over the smash-and-grab style of Goliath. Wraith has a lot of powerful tools at her disposal. She can abduct Hunters one at a time, separating them from the rest of their group. She can warp to an enemy's position and deal burst damage. She can even make a decoy of herself to distract Hunters while she turns invisible and either makes a hasty escape or gets a better position on the unsuspecting Hunters.

The trade-off, though, is that Wraith's armor and health are puny compared to other Monsters. If Wraith finds herself stuck in a team battle with an entire Hunter squad, she'll quickly find herself clinging on to life. Stealth, then, is the name of the game for Wraith players. Keep Hunters guessing with your invisibility powers and take them out one at a time.

Mega Man Games Go On Sale In The Nintendo eShop

Turtle Rock still has another Monster in the works – one that the community is getting to name – but it will only be offered as DLC and as a preorder bonus.

In other news, Turtle Rock announced that Evolve's open beta will be going live on Xbox One from January 15-19. Any Xbox Live Gold member will be able to test out the game's main Hunt mode, and the five-round Evacuation mode will open up on the 17th. Only the first two Monsters and first eight Hunters will be playable, but anyone you unlock in that time frame will still be available to you once the full game launches.

The beta will also be available on PC starting January 16 for anyone who was in the previous Big Alpha or anyone with either Left 4 Dead or BioShock Infinite in their Steam libraries. PS4 players will be able to get into the beta starting January 17 if they were in the Big Alpha. Neither the PC nor the PS4 betas will include the Evacuation mode, though, and neither will allow players to carry unlocks over to the full release.

In other other news, Turtle Rock confirmed the details about Evolve's single-player mode. The game's single-play gameplay will be the same as the multiplayer experience only with bots controlling the other five characters. If you choose to play as the Hunters in single-player, though, you have the extra ability to switch characters mid-match. Pin down the Monster with your Trapper class then switch to Assault to lay down the law. Did you just get killed as the Medic? Switch to Support and don't bother waiting to respawn.

Evolve will launch February 10 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
