Destiny is arguably one of the top games of the year yet despite its rampant popularity there are still quite a few detractors from Bungie's blockbuster title. One of the biggest issues that players have is that despite the hype, the actual single player story was lacking. Penny Arcade has created a short comic that shows what the storyline could have been.
New Vanguard Gear for Destiny The Dark Below
The plot contained in the game is short and full of broad strokes. In parts it just feels like an extra-long tutorial to get you ready for the real game: Grinding and raiding with your bros. Which is far and away from what the storyline that was supposed to be some new take on Science Fiction should have been.
Penny Arcade's comic is short, a single page story. But even in that one page, there is so much that could be explored, even in the game. In the comic, the nature of the Traveler is questioned and though not explicitly commented on, it says a lot about the place of Guardians in this world. The nature of the player themselves and maybe the futility of what we do in game.
Destiny The Dark Below Released, Brings All New Game Elements
It's that deep.
Bungie has just released the first expansion for the game but it likely won't add much to the story. For fans it doesn't seem to matter much as the game itself is well, fun. There's still hope on the horizon. Bungie seems to be taking complaints on the story very seriously and will be hopefully start to build a better story for players.
