Smite MOBA New God Confirmed: Awilix, Mayan Goddess Of The Moon, Will Join The Battleground Of The Gods

Smite's Next Fighter Is Confirmed To Be Awilix, Mayan Goddess Of The Moon

The Mayan goddess Awilix will be the next fighter to join the pantheon of Smite, according to a Twitter announcement today from the game's community manager.

The Next Expansion For Star Wars: The Old Republic Goes Live Today

Awilix will be joining the game's smaller Mayan pantheon, which currently shares the status of having the game's smallest selection of gods with the Hindu offering. After the addition of Awilix, the Mayan pantheon in Smite will still be smaller than the other, more fleshed out pantheons in the game, though it would only need one more god after Awilix to catch up with the pantheons from Rome and China. Awilix will also mark the first female character from Mayan mythology.

Awilix is the Mayan goddess of the moon – though she is sometimes depicted as male. As a figure in Mayan mythology, Awilix is often associated with the jaguar, and one of her abilities seems to reflect this connection, based on the images that the community has been able to dig out of the game's code. Awilix's first ability seems to have her leap onto a jaguar, which would mirror other moves already in Smite that consist of a god jumping onto a mount that gives them a short burst of speed.

Dragon Age: Inquisition Is Set To Get Its First Post-Launch Patch Today, Except On Xbox One

The Smite community has known for more than a month now that Awilix would be eventually put into the game thanks to the community's dedicated data miners that dig through the game's hidden files. The order in which these gods will make their debuts, though, is not always clear – players didn't know if Awilix would come after Nox or last update's Ao Kuang, for example – so the confirmation from developer Hi-Rez is appreciated. Expect more details about Awilix to start rolling out this week.

Smite is free to play for PC.
