Sony made many announcements at its PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas this weekend, and one of the most surprising was the return of console faceplates.

The fad never seemed to really take off last generation beyond some limited edition consoles, but Sony seems to have faith in the return of customizable panels. A post on the PlayStation Blog details the products, codenamed Project SkyLight, and shows off some of the sample faceplates (seen above).

The early beta version of the program is starting off with the two examples, Little Big Planet and The Order 1886, each available for $24.99. There will be a small number available only, so anyone keen on purchasing one should head over to the Sony Store before they're gone. More designs will become available as the project advances, but no further details have been announced at this time.
