At this weekend's PlayStation Experience keynote address Atlus U.S.A. has confirmed what we've all been hoping- Persona 5 will be hitting North American shores in 2015. What's more, it will be coming out for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
This isn't huge news- Persona 5 was already confirmed for Japanese PS4s a few months ago via a Japanese teaser trailer for the game- but this is the first official word that the PS4 version is coming here as well.
For anyone not familiar with the long-running roleplaying series, here's the obligarory "BUY PERSONA 4 GOLDEN RIGHT NOW" public service announcement. If you haven't picked up a PS Vita to play it, you should. It's well worth the price of a system by itself, simply the pinnacle of JRPGs. If you own a PS Vita and don't also own the game- you're doing things wrong.
While characters from Persona 3 and 4 have continued their stories in other genres with excellent spin-off titles like Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and Persona Q, we have no word on if this title will continue the storyline or be its own beast. We do know that it features at least one new protagonist and will once again be set inside a high school, dealing with topics and emotions that most other series don't want to touch. (How many other games do you know that tackle teenage issues like suicide, absuse, etc?) Persona 5 will also feature a brand-new engine built exclusively for the game.
But otherwise, Atlus is keeping things close to their chest for now. More as we hear it but either way, it's an exciting time to be a PS4 owner.
