PewDiePie finally made his appearance on South Park and if you missed it, it's up to view right now. The episode was full of its normal amount of crassness and hilarity while managing to trash pop culture mercilessly. The episode, titled #Rehash, is a scathing look at modern fame.

PewDiePie's part was relatively small in the course of the episode but the totally meta Cartman rip-off and the hilarious juxtapose against daytime TV made up for it in hilarity. PewDiePie appeared as he does in real life, in a box on the corner of a computer screen discussing a play through of a game.
Kyle, who clearly lives under a rock, has never heard of the hyper famous YouTuber before which is weird considering that his much younger brother is a huge fan. But this is South Park, things are weird. As a consequence of not understanding the allure of the Let's Play videos, Kyle starts to have a midlife crisis revolving around the effect of technology on the younger generation.

The main theme and focus here is that nothing is new anymore. People are just making money and gaining fame on the coattails off of other people or the idea of manufactured celebrity. Nothing is new, nothing is different, we just like to think it is.
Maybe this is a dark vision of the present. But one thing remains certain: People sure do like watching videos of PewDiePie playing games at their computer.
