The highly anticipated finale to an epic fantasy trilogy is nearly upon us, a fan-favorite franchise finally drawing to a satisfying close this month. But enough about The Hobbit!
It turns out that Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb hits in a few short weeks, and Pocket Gems will be releasing a hidden objects companion game ahead of the release for mobile devices. Titled Night at the Museum: Hidden Treasures, the iOS and Android game will see you playing a security guard that has to search around a museum, picking up relics and discovering clues by tap-tap-tapping around the screen.
Normally tie-in games shoehorn a movie into a platformer or something other genre that makes absolutely no sense for the property, but going with Pocket Gems was a clever idea for Fox Digital Entertainment. Pocket Gems is well-known for their slate of hidden object games, a genre that certainly fits the franchise perfectly.
"We're huge fans of Night at the Museum and are thrilled to help create an all new adventure in its universe," said Ben Liu, CEO of Pocket Gems. "Night at the Museum: Hidden Treasures will be fun for fans of the film franchise and the hidden-objects genre."
The game will include fan favorite characters such as Theodore Roosevelt (portrayed in the film by the late Robin Williams), Jebediah Smith (Owen Wilson), and Rexy The Tyrannosaurus Rex. Play the game long enough and you'll be able to unlock new exhibits in the museum, such as the surface of the moon or an Egyptian tomb.
“Night at the Museum: Hidden Treasures captures the spectacle and poignancy of the upcoming film, while engaging players with the same adventure and discovery elements that audiences have come to expect and enjoy from the franchise. We’re excited to partner with Pocket Gems to release this brand new mobile game to Night at the Museum fans all over the world,” commented Shawn Levy, director and producer of the upcoming film, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.
From the look of the gameplay Hidden Treasures appears to be a freemium title in line with Fox Digital's other popular titles such as The Simpsons: Tapped Out and Family Guy: The Quest For Stuff.
There's no set release date just yet but the game will be available for both the Apple App Store and on Google Play before Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb's release on December 19.
