Path Of Exile Patch 1.3.0: Update Brings Massive PvP Changes Including Season Pass, Tournaments, New Challenge Leagues And More

Grinding Gear Games, the creators of the very good dungeon crawler Path of Exile, has given us the best Black Friday present. The company has announced that the next free content update, Patch 1.3.0, will focus heavily on the multiplayer PvP elements.

The update will hit servers in two weeks on December 12 at 8 p.m. Eastern time. So what will it be bringing to the table? Glad you asked.

"Patch 1.3.0 will include but is not limited to: new Torment and Bloodlines Challenge Leagues, a new PvP-focused Forsaken Master, competitive PvP tournaments with regular Seasons, PvP-only characters, new gems and Unique items, a massive update to the Passive Skill Tree, and much more." according to the official release.

Forget Black Friday. This is a very early Christmas present. The bulk of the patch notes can be found here. Grinding Gear will update that list as the days go on. Full patch notes will be available a day or two before the update hits servers.

The update introduces two new Challenge leagues, the standard Torment league in which players must battle wicked spirits that have a bad habit of possessing nearby enemies. And the Bloodlines league, in which packs of monsters have various shared effects - effects that can be active even after death. Check out the Bloodlines description below in the latest Youtube video.

"Like the Challenge Leagues before them, these new leagues have eight highly difficult challenges to complete. The first challenge completed will reward the player with a Totem Pole decoration that can be displayed in their Hideout, which grows taller as more challenges are completed. The first 50 players to complete all of the challenges will receive an exclusive Torment/Bloodlines t-shirt."

Path of Exile will be getting three PvP specific tournament types:

- "Free-for-all tournaments take place in the Sarn Arena. They're a massive brawl where players get one point per player kill. Upon death, players are sent to a new arena to continue the massacre."
- "Blitz tournaments are a series of rapid-fire duels where players are quickly matched against a new opponent as soon as the last round finishes. The goal is to get as many victories as possible within the time limit."
- "Swiss tournaments are highly competitive tournaments that match players with similar records against each other. They're run in regimented matches with seven fights to a match and provide the most competitive structure of the three tournaments on offer."

Additional PvP elements include the first Season Pass for players, as well as the ability to create a level 28 blank 'PvP only' character, all the better to duel other players with. These characters will still need to be equipped via PvE, so be sure to save whatever loot your other characters are not using.

"Grinding Gear Games has massively changed the Passive Skill Tree, added more gems and unique items, and have made a myriad of small improvements to Path of Exile across the board. Read the full list here. Sign up and start playing for free NOW."
