When many think of virtual reality, they think of a clunky headset that people wear while sitting in front of their computers. Some VR companies, however, are trying out setups where a VR experience is driven by a user's smartphone. iPhone 6 owners may be able to get in on the fun soon enough, thanks to a new Indiegogo campaign.
Samsung's Galaxy S5 Isn't Doing So Hot
Pinć VR is a new Indiegogo campaign (thanks, Engadget) that wants to turn every iPhone 6 into a virtual reality device. Much like Samsung did earlier this year with the Gear VR that runs using a Galaxy Note 4, the Pinć uses a special app and the iPhone 6's screen to create an "immersive computing experience."
When it's not in use as a VR device, the Pinć is simply a case for your iPhone 6, albeit a rather thick one compared to others. The case's thickness, though, comes from the fact that it carries everything it needs to turn into a complete VR headset. When you want to start your VR session, simply flip the case so that the iPhone's screen faces the inside, and the rest case opens up into a pair of goggles that fits securely on your head.

The company's goal is to make everything from shopping to web browsing an immersive VR experience. The Pinć system includes a pair of digital sensors that fit on the user's fingers, allowing them to perform pinch and scroll gestures from within the VR experience. Everything is tracked by the case's camera, which expands the field of view of the iPhone's regular camera.
The crowdfunding campaign has an ambitious goal of $100,000 CAD. Seeing as how the campaign has already raised almost 10 percent of that in just two days, though, it has a fair chance of succeeding. If you want to get in on the ground floor of this project, you have until December 23 to donate.
