WWE 2K15 Next-Gen Review Roundup: Xbox One And PS4 Editions Offer Improved Graphics At The Cost Of Gameplay

WWE 2K15 Next-Gen Review Roundup: Keep Playing 2K14 Or Wait Until 2K16, This One's Beauty Is Only Skin Deep

Two weeks ago, the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of WWE 2K15 launched. The few outlets that reviewed it said it to 'wait until the next-gen version.' Aah, the promised land. Xbox One and PS4 are sure to save us.

Quite a few more people have chimed in on the next generation version and as it turns out, you can only put so much lipstick on a pig. The general consensus around the web now is 'Keep playing WWE 2K14.' What you get in graphics is not worth the loss of some features and the lacklusterness of new additions.

Giant Bomb - 2 out 5 stars: "It's hard to look at WWE 2K15 as anything but a massive downgrade. Yes, 2K has imbued 2K15 with impressive graphical prowess, but those hot visuals don't mean a whole hell of a lot when the rest of the game feels so undercooked. At best, 2K15 shows some glimmers of hope for the future, laying the groundwork for modes and features that could be turned into something great in upcoming iterations. But as those features exist within the confines of WWE 2K15, little of what's here is strong enough to make up for what's been lost in transition."

IGN dubs it 'The Underperformer' in their review. "WWE 2K15 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One doesn't quite meet the expectations set by previous entries in the series. While the wrestlers look amazing and the combat feels significantly better, MyCareer mode is an absolute slog and everything else has been done better in previous years. Between the narrower historical mode, the shuttered creation suites, and the dearth of combat options for bigger groups, WWE 2K15 has lost some of the tools that brought previous entries to the main event."

Gametrailers puts the game into a hold and forces a submission, grading it a 5.5, citing, "WWE 2K15 has attempted to create an authentic wrestling experience by slowing the pace to a crawl, and the result is a boring and unsatisfying. WWE 2K15 loses sight of what makes wrestling fun in the first place: high thrills, meaningful momentum changes, and unsuspected surprises. While it's fun reliving past rivalries, the stripped down create-a-superstar, laggy online, and lackluster career mode pin this year's game into a submission it simply can't break out of."

Even the traditional media outlets are getting in on the action. USA Today was kinder than its internet peers, awarding the game a 7 out of 10 and saying "For better or worse, WWE 2K15 is the perfect digital representation of the WWE in 2014. There are a few moments of brilliance, and there are some mediocre matches in between - but in the end, if you love wrestling, you'll probably coming back for more."

Because that's the thing, isn't it? This is a yearly series about wrestling. There will never not be an audience present for this. If you didn't like what happened last night, tune in later, you'll be sure to find something that excites you.

Overall, though, stick with 2K14. I am sure 2K16 will iron out the bugs, but dammit, why not have them ironed out for this go around?
