Apple made a lot of big announcements at their annual September keynote. Phones, watches, iOSes. It had it all. There was also the curious case of the only non-Apple product shown off: Vainglory, a new MOBA from the team at Super Evil Megacorp.
Football Manager 2015 Comes To iOS And Android This Week
Turns out that in addition to every other game worth buying for the rest of the year, Vainglory is out now for specific iOS systems. iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina Display, iPad with Retina Display, iPad 2 users needs iOS 6.1 or later. iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus need iOS 8.0 or later A touch screen MOBA? One that was developed by former Blizzard (Hearthstone) and Riot (League of Legends) members? Gentlemen, you have my attention.
The game utilizes Apple's new games processor Metal, which can rival go toe to toe with some early stage next-gen titles in terms of graphics, while removing that bulky, immovable desktop.
"Vainglory opens up a whole new world of experiences in touch-screen gaming by playing together with friends in the same room, as a LAN party," said Stephan Sherman, Chief Creative Officer of Super Evil Megacorp, in a press release. "While queuing up solo for online multiplayer games is fun and rewarding, the intensity of team play with friends around the table is incredible. Plus, trash talk. It's like the LAN parties of old - except no heavy PC equipment required."
Imagine that. Playing an online game with other people in the same room. Such a foreign concept these days!
"To make Vainglory," Sherman continued, "we started from scratch to create that core MOBA experience - the highs and the lows, the build-up of anticipation, the sweet victory or bitter defeat. We want you to feel how it feels to play a core game - with the immediacy of touch."
Vainglory is free to play on the App store. The game takes up 278 MB, although that doesn't include the 4+ GBs you need to upgrade to iOS 8.
To ring in Vainglory's launch today, professional League of Legends player and streamer George "Zekent" Liu of Team Curse fame will be hosting a live launch stream of Vainglory from 1-3 p.m. (PT) today at twitch.tv/vainglory- you can watch it below.
