Now that the alpha for Evolve is done, Turtle Rock has started revealing new characters for their upcoming multiplayer shooter. It is not just trappers running around, attempting to blow things up. Like Neo in The Matrix, it really helps to have some support watching your back, and upgrading your abilities.
Meet Abe, The Third And Final Trapper In Evolve
Enter William Cabot. He is the third and final support character (not to be confused with the Trapper roster) He is described as "the only one man could lead the desperate attempt to rescue the last of the remaining colonists from Shear." And he does it all without the flashy firepower of his fellows.
"Like the other support hunters, Cabot helps the team do something they were already doing, better. Hank's shield gun keeps the team alive. Bucket's head, makes it almost impossible for the monster to get away. Cabot's damage amplifier makes the monster easier to kill." Given that the monster is a hulking, twisted demon from the-place-which-shall-not-be-named, any advantage the tiny humans can gain is useful.
Warlords Of Draenor Launches Today!
Cabot goes about his support, and destruction, in three ways. Firstly, his main ability is Damage Amplification which does precisely that: amplifies damage. All damage done to his target is doubled.
A gifted tracker, Cabot is not beyond calling in for help. Cabot can call for his ship to drop a cloud of radioactive dust, which will highlight any and all living things in the area. Considering the size of Evolve's maps, finding the damn monster is half the battle.
Nor is he without his own offensive capabilities. He comes with the greatest video game weapon of all time: the portable rail cannon. It can shoot through solid rock. As long as the man can see it, he can shoot it. "If line of sight is blocked, by trees, or buildings, or rock, or anything, the cannon's projectile bursts into a cone 40 meters long." And if you, dear monster, find yourself in there, you'll be taking half damage.
These are my favorite kind of characters to play. They're the bass players of the video game world. They aren't the flashiest, they don't get the girls, but without them, the music just wouldn't be any good.
Evolve is set to release February 10 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. There's a live Twitch stream this Friday at 3 p.m. PST, showing off more of Cabot and the rest of the hunters.
