Batman: Arkham Knight Details: Devs Aiming For Graphical Parity Across Platforms, Batman Gets Some Slick New Stealth And Combat Tricks

Arkham Knight Devs Answer Fan Questions, Including One About Graphical Parity Across Platforms

Arkham developer Rocksteady Studios announced that it will be aiming for graphical parity – including both frame rate and resolution – for all versions of next year's Batman: Arkham Knight.

Everything You Need To Know About Assassin's Creed Rogue Before It Launches

The quote comes from a livestream (thanks, GameSpot) where a couple of developers from Rocksteady answered fan questions about the upcoming game. When asked about the frame rate and resolution for the PS4 version, the developers responded with an expected, "We don't know yet" since the game is half a year from completion, but they also mentioned that they were aiming for parity across platforms.

The phrase "graphical parity" has struck some nerves in the game community recently as fans get upset when it seems like a game is graphically held back on one console so that it won't be ahead of the other console version. Most recently, this issue came up with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Assassin's Creed Unity after a misunderstood quote led players to believe that the graphics of one console were artificially locked to keep the two versions equal.

Far Cry 4 Won't Include A Blood Dragon 2, But It Might Get Something Just As Weird

The livestream also includes answers for a number of other fan questions, so it's worth a watch even if you have no horse in the whole resolution and frame rate races. The developers also spend time talking about how mechanics like stealth and combat have evolved in Arkham Knight. For example, Batman has finally figured out how to actually wield those baseball bats and pipes that he takes from thugs. It's a handy skill to have, though why it took him four games to learn is anyone's guess.

In this conclusion to Rocksteady's acclaimed Arkham trilogy, Batman faces off against the mysterious Arkham Knight, a new enemy who wears a suit of armor that imitates Batman's iconic get-up. The big new addition to the formula for this game is the Batmobile. In Arkham Knight, Batman will be able to patrol the streets of Gotham in his high-octane vehicle, alternating between the classic speed mode and a powerful assault mode as needed.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be available on June 2, 2015, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
