Hearthstone News: Bot Site Defeated, Warcrawler Shutters Service After Recent Wave Of Bans In Blizzard Card Game

Humanity: 1, Bots: 0 - Warcrawler Bot Site Shutters Service After Recent Wave Of Hearthstone Bans

Look, I get it. World of Warcraft can feel like a job. So can Hearthstone. Hell, so can any Blizzard property. There are some people who literally play Blizzard games for their job. Much like a lot of jobs out there, wouldn't it be great if we could just let robots do our jobs for us? Thus was botting born.

Destiny: The Dark Below - Worth It?

Recently, though, botting died. At least a little. The popular bot site Warcrawler has been permanently shut down after a recent wave of temporary bans affected a good number of Hearthstone players. Botting, the subversive art of automating gameplay to collect gold or other items, goes against the terms of service for both Hearthstone and Warcraft (and probably most every other game out there).

"This is our last official announcement. The recent ban wave in Hearthstone hit a lot of users," the official Warcrawler website stated, "after discussing this with Blizzard, it's clear we have to take off our services/products now. Please note that we're not going to be commenting further on this."

"Thank you all for being part of our community. We are very sad about this but you also know botting is against the rules and we all knew that the day when our products doesn't work anymore would come," it added.

Players affected by the ban will suffer a three-month temporary suspension. If caught using further programs - and make no mistake, these things have a way of sprouting back up - violators will be perma-banned from the game.

All of this brings up the question: when you stop playing a game, which is almost by definition meant to be 'fun' and let the game essentially play itself, what the hell is even the point anymore?
